Neuropsychology Services

The Neuropsychology Service provides comprehensive assessment services for geriatric, adult, and pediatric patients with evident or suspected cognitive or neuropsychiatric impairments.

Neuropsychological assessment involves a systematic evaluation of higher cognitive abilities, such as intelligence, academic skill, memory, language, attention, problem-solving ability, and visual-motor skills, as well as sensorimotor and personality/emotional functioning. This assessment assists family members or caregivers in making decisions about the patient's independence, ability to work, rehabilitation, school placements or interventions, and other issues.

A comprehensive report summarizing our findings, including recommendations for potential treatments and the likely consequences of the patient's difficulties in daily functioning, is prepared for the referring physician. A feedback session with the patient and family can also be provided. When warranted for child patients, our professionals participate in multi-disciplinary meetings, school conferences, and the development of specific programs or accommodations to facilitate school progress.

The Neuropsychology Service provides assessment and treatment recommendations for these conditions and others:

The Neuropsychology Team

The Neuropsychology Service provides neuropsychological diagnostic and intervention services to inpatients and outpatients referred from a wide variety of medical and mental health specialists at the University of Chicago Hospitals' main campus and its satellite offices.

Confidentiality

All information obtained during a patient's diagnostic evaluation will be kept confidential. If the professional treating the patient believes that discussing the patient's treatment with another health care provider would be beneficial, our staff will assist the patient in completing a Release of Medical Information Form.
