ADDICTION PSYCHIATRY (PGY-III)

Lecture 1: Overview of Addiction: Assessment, Comorbidity, and Epidemiology

Lecture 2: Neurobiology of Addiction

Lecture 3: Alcohol and depressants

Lecture 4: Opioids and injecting drug use

Lecture 5:  Other Drugs:  Arylcyclohexylamines, hallucinogens, and inhalants

Lecture 6: Stimulants and club drugs

Lecture 7: Tobacco and cannabis.

Lecture 8: Psychosocial Treatment Approaches.


Objectives:

By the end of this lecture series, the resident should be familiar with:

 

  1. Basic epidemiology, genetics, and neurobiology of addiction
  2. Clinical characteristics of dependence on specific drugs
  3. Basic pharmacological and behavioral approaches to the treatment of psychoactive substance use disorders.
