Goals and Objectives: Clinical Forensic Experience

The clinical forensic experience is, of necessity, a part-time experience. At a minimum, by the end of this experience, the resident:

 
  1. Will demonstrate competence in the evaluation of  psychiatric patients for forensic purposes
  2. Will demonstrate competence in the ability to apply his/her knowledge of psychiatric disease, treatment, and interviewing skills to address legal issues as appropriate

Objectives:

  1. The resident will work with an attorney to identify at least one case with need for medicolegal evaluation.
  2. The resident will synthesize case material, including clinical interview and review of records, and write at least one forensic psychiatric report, identifying and supporting all medicolegal opinions.
