GOALS and Objectives

1. To become familiar with the range of illness expressions of common psychiatric syndromes

2. To become familiar with some of the psychological mechanisms which may transform the expression of different syndromes.

3. To become aware of the role of culture in the background of the patient's everyday life, in the context of healing, and in the creation of the chronic patient role.

4. To become aware of the classic puzzles in the way psychiatric illness seems to shift over cultural boundaries.
