Objectives:

By the end of this lecture series, the resident should:

  1. Be familiar with the basic ethical differences between clinical and forensic psychiatry
  2. Be familiar with the basic legal principles behind civil commitment, involuntary treatment, the insanity defense, medical malpractice, and civil competencies.
  3. Have a basic understanding of risk prediction in psychiatry
  4. Be familiar with the requirements for effective expert evaluation and testimony.
