Thresholds Community Mental Health Rotation Goals & Objectives

Goals:

1. To provide PGY II residents with an appropriate experience in community mental health.

2. To expose PGY II residents to the available community resources for patients with chronic mental illnesses.

3. To further develop a knowledge base of psychopharmacologic intervention for patients with chronic mental illnesses in the community.

Objectives

  1. To learn how to conduct psychiatric evaluations in an outpatient community setting.
  2. To understand and work with a full range of levels of care that exist to serve the chronically mentally ill including; homeless outreach progams, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Teams, psychosocial rehabilitation programs such as Thresholds, jail programs, housing options, vocational rehabilitation, among others.
  3. To develop the ability to interact with different providers of care to optimize a treatment plan for patients with chronic mental illnesses.
  4. To understand the principles of maintenance and stabilization of antipsychotic medications, including long active (depot) forms.
