The Departmental Committee on Appointments, Mentorship and Promotions (D-CAMP), serves to foster mentorship in the Department and to support faculty in seeking reappointment and promotion. The committee strives to help faculty build careers that are meaningful to them and that will earn recognition and respect within and outside the Department and the University of Chicago.

D-CAMP is currently reviewing the Department’s mentorship assignments and practices in order to create a system that facilitates regular mentorship meetings and ensures effective mentorship and supervision in clinical and educational development and in scholarship.

D-CAMP strives to meet with each new junior faculty member and their mentors in the early months after initial appointment, again in year 2 of the Assistant Professorship term to prepare each faculty member for reappointment to a second 4-year term, and again in year 5 after reappointment to discuss goals for promotion to Associate Professor. D-CAMP meets with Associate Professors in years 2-3 to focus on reappointment, and again after reappointment to focus on promotion to Full Professor in the second or third term.

Faculty are asked to present their CV to the Committee, along with personal statements outlining their achievements and goals in the areas of clinical work, education, scholarship, and citizenship.

D-CAMP maintains a Box folder where faculty members may find sample CV’s and personal statements created by faculty who have been successfully promoted, as well as by more junior Assistant Professors and Associate Professors preparing for reappointment.
