The Adult Section of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago is offering a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in Adult Gastrointestinal Health Psychology (Psychogastroenterology). A successful candidate will spend 80% of time in clinical work and associated responsibilities, including the treatment of adult individuals with gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. The fellow may also work with patients with comorbid sexual or mental health concerns, depending on the fellow’s interest and the nature of clinic referrals. Twenty percent may be devoted to scholarly endeavors including research and program development.
The fellow will have two hours of individual supervision per week, and will participate in a group psychogastroenterology didactic seminar. The fellow may also choose to attend didactics with other psychology and psychiatry trainees within the department.
The development of clinical, educational, and research skills in a multidisciplinary environment will prepare the fellow for a career in an academic medical center as a health psychologist. Please note that your university-based graduate program in health service psychology and your doctoral psychology internship must be accredited by the American Psychological Association.
